DESCRIPTION:

Perhaps you need to have a difficult conversation with one of your own team members, your boss, your board or a business client.or maybe you need to coach one of your business clients on how to have a "make it or break it" conversation. with one of his/her employees or an external customer. Do you have the skills - and the confidence - to do it effectively? Having ineffective critical conversations, or even worse, avoiding them all together, comes with a cost to you, your team, and to your organization. In this interactive and practical workshop, you will explore how to gain buy-in and inspire others through your approach to critical dialogue with them. You will learn techniques to take away the "noise" of a difficult conversation in order to get to the desired result of the interaction. And for those times when the tension runs high, you will learn strategies to explore viewpoints from "both sides of the table" and keep the dialogue above board and healthy. The tools and techniques you learn in this workshop will help get you past your apprehensions of having difficult conversations. And by holding the conversations that you may have once avoided or handled poorly, you will bring your relationships - and your organization - to a new level. As part of this development experience, you will receive one individual coaching session prior to the workshop to assess your current communication style and help you establish goals for the session. You will also receive one individual session following the workshop to help you reinforce and apply the techniques demonstrated in class. Through the two individual sessions and the workshop itself, you will:

  • Evaluate and increase awareness of your communication style
  • Learn and practice tools and techniques to take your communication skills to the next level
  • Define attitudes that get in the way of critical conversations
  • Identify strategies to manage emotions when the stakes are high
  • Discover the psychological components of having a critical conversation
  • Learn how to get from resistance to acceptance
  • Raise your credibility and lasting impact of your personal leadership!
