Kay Owen 
Kay Owen has 30 years of experience as an Industrial/Organizational Psychologist, business executive and
organizational consultant. Her areas of focus include competency modeling, selection systems design,
behaviorally-based structured interviewing, 360° feedback and coaching, assessment, executive coaching,
talent management and succession planning.
Kay began her professional career as an internal Consultant in Control Data Corporation's Human Resources
organization, where she conducted HR research projects including selection test validation studies,
program evaluation, and employee opinion survey research. Kay then joined Lutheran Brotherhood, a Fortune
500 financial services organization (now known as Thrivent Financial for Lutherans) where she spent more
than 20 years, holding leadership positions in human resource development, talent management/leadership
development, planning, strategy and merger integration. She achieved the level of Vice President and
served as a member of the organization's senior team.
Kay then moved to the University of Minnesota's Carlson School of Management Executive Education group,
where she served as Business Development Manager and later as Associate Director. She next joined
Lominger International, where she consulted nationwide with organizations implementing the Lominger suite
of competency-based tools and talent management processes. Lominger was acquired by Korn/Ferry
International, the global executive search firm, and Kay then became part of Korn/Ferry Leadership and
Talent Consulting.
In 2009, Kay began working as an independent consultant, and in 2010 she began working with hr connection.
Kay has consulted with clients in multiple industries, including manufacturing, Agricultural and Food
Products, Health Care, Financial Services, Retail; Education, and Engineering/Construction; as well as
organizations in the Public Sector.
Kay holds a Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational and Counseling Psychology from the University of Minnesota
in Minneapolis. She is a member of the American Psychological Association (APA), the Society for
Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP), Minnesota Professionals for Psychology Applied to Work
(MPPAW), and the HR Executive Forum.
