Frequently Asked Questions
How does
hr
connection® differ from a typical networking or
professional group like TCHRA or HRPS?
hr connection® members are required to have 7+ years’ experience in a progressive HR
function, with a focus on the strategic rather than the tactical aspects
of HR. Small groups operate on the principles of peer learning - meeting
with a facilitator on a regular basis to dialogue - and committed to
supporting and be mutually accountable for each other’s learning. Whom you
meet is never left to chance. Groups are carefully formed to match people
with similar accountabilities. You meet with people who share the same
issues you do. hr connection® is not a
volunteer organization; our staff is dedicated to meeting members’ needs.
How big are the small groups?
The maximum is 16 people.
Can I come to a meeting and check it out?
Generally, no. Groups establish their own bond and expect confidentiality.
A casual visitor might be seen as disruptive.
Do I always meet with the same group of people? Yes
Do I have an opportunity to meet other
members?
Yes. Periodically, hr connection® schedules
Best Practice Exchanges – sessions open to the entire membership and
potential members.
How do you decide which group I
join?
We try to match people with similar accountabilities, levels of
responsibility and organization size. We also have groups formed around
specific functions or issues: Staffing, Training and OD, Compensation,
etc.
Do I need to join for a full
year?
We ask a 3-month (one quarter) commitment at minimum.
How am I billed?
You can pay quarterly, or take advantage of a special rate if you pay the
annual fee in full.
What happens if I can’t attend my group for some period of time?
hr connection® can arrange for a sabbatical if you
are
unable to attend due to travel, or extraordinary work, or personal obligations. Call for details.
What do you do in small
groups?
Generally the first part of the meeting is open discussion of issues or
concerns that have surfaced in the intervening month. The remainder of the
meeting focuses on a topic that was selected at the previous meeting.
Members come prepared to discuss and share resources. In some cases groups
invite an expert to share perspectives on a topic.
When and where do you meet?
Calhoun Beach Club, generally 7:30 – 9:00 a.m.
